American officials, as well as the 2016 White House contenders, are using last week’s deadly mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, as an excuse to promote their own ill-intentioned agendas, says an American geopolitical analyst.
Eric Draitser made the comments in the wake of the last Sunday attacks where Omar Mateen, an alleged Daesh sympathizer, killed 49 people and injured 53 others at Orlando’s Pulse Club before being killed by special SWAT units.
The shooting prompted CIA Director John Brennan to warn against Daesh’s plans to wreak more havoc in the West while admitting that Washington has failed to defeat the terror group.
Draitser argued that Brennan, like many other US officials, is seeking to exploit the tragic massacre to the CIA’s benefit.
“As director of the CIA, it is his responsibility to make sure that the CIA continues to get its funding—both legally and illegally—and the CIA continues to be as at the forefront of the so-called counter-terror war” against Daesh, he told Press TV on Friday.
Draitser said the Orlando assailant’s run-ins with the FBI and other US law enforcement agencies further proved Washington’s inability in defeating Daesh and curbing its attacks despite spending billions of dollars on intelligence gathering.
According to a US intelligence official, the FBI had interviewed Mateen three times before the fateful attack.
“What does this tell you? It tells you that no matter how much money is spent, no matter how much direct connection can be established with a suspected terrorist, it does not actually prevent terror attacks,” Draitser said.
What Washington, and Brennan in particular, was advocating was “feeding billions of dollars into the military-industrial complex,” the analyst further explained.
Draitser also referred to the ongoing race for the White House, noting that presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s call for “intelligence surge” echoed the same approach as Brennan and the others, proving her status as a “warmonger” and a “crooked” politician.
“She knows, actually, that 70 percent of the money that the United States government spends on so-called intelligence disappears into the pockets of private mercenary organizations, private intelligent companies, and the private sector generally,” the analyst noted.
Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, on the other hand, is promoting racism and religious discrimination, using the Orlando attack as an excuse, Draitser said.
“Both of these two are exploiting this incident and John Brennan, giving his testimony, is doing likewise,” he noted.
