Iran clobber Russia in final showdown of 2016 Wrestling World Cup

Iran has won the 2016 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup after dismantling Russia 8-0 in the final showdown.

The Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup has ended with an emphatic victory for hosts Iran, after dismantling Russia 8-0 in the final showdown in Shiraz. 

After the Iranians' mastery was dictated to Turkey with a convincing 7-1 win in the semi-finals of the tournament, the home team performed even better in the final against mighty Russia. 

Wins from Saman Abdevali, Omid Norouzi and Afshin Biyaban-Gard put the hosts 3-nil up. 

In the 75 kg category, Irakli Kalandiya withdrew from the encounter with Saeid Abdevali and his no-show was followed by Ramin Taheri's 6-4 win over Ramezan Abachariev in the 80 kg category which already sealed Iran's title.

However, Mohammad Bana's men did not Lose their motivation in the remaining bouts and won all 3 battles, to wrap-up a hammering 8-nothing victory over Russia to keep the championship trophy in Iran.
