Agricultural researchers are taking steps towards discovering which vegetables can grow well in Martian and lunar soil.
The Scientists at a Dutch university say the US space agency NASA has made ground similar to that on the Moon from sand found in an Arizona desert. NASA scooped soil from a volcano in Hawaii to make Mars' crimson sand.
Dutch researchers have received 100 kilograms of NASA's imitation "space soil" at a price of 2,000 euros. Experts stuck tomatoes, peas, cress and other plants in pots containing the simulated soil. They say the plants grow very fast in the Martian soil.
