Iranian judoka Mahjoub claims bronze in Almaty Grand Prix

Iranian judo practitioner Javad Mahjoub has snatched a bronze medal at Almaty Grand Prix 2016 in Kazakhstan.

On Sunday, the 24-year-old Iranian sportsman emerged victorious over Jason Koster from New Zealand in his first encounter of the minus 100-kilogram weight division at the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace.

Molaei faced Rafael Buzacarini, a representative from Brazil, in the next contest, where he conceded a defeat.

The Iranian judoka prevailed over Tunisia’s Anis Ben Khaled in his repechage, and outmuscled Hungarian contestant Miklos Cirjenics in the third-place challenge and won a bronze medal.

Almaty Grand Prix 2016 started in Kazakhstan on May 13 and concluded on May 15.

The tournament brought together 399 judokas from 84 countries, including Brazil, Hungary, Iran, Kazakhstan, New Zealand and Tunisia.

The gold medalists received a cash prize of 2,400 US dollars, the runners-up got 1,600 US dollars and the third-place finishers were awarded 800 US dollars.
