Iran’s national footvolley team has ended its campaign at the 3rd edition of the Asian Footvolley Championship in Thailand, finishing as the vice-champion in the continental sporting event.

The final match between Iran’s B squad, comprised of Jamil Kor and Abdulati Nazari, and Thailand’s national footvolley team A was held on Sunday evening in Bangkok.

The Thais could eventually take both sets by a wide point difference, and chalk up a 2-0 win over the Persians.

Iran’s national men’s footvolley team earned a position in the final showdown of the 3rd edition of the Asian Footvolley Championship following a resounding victory over the Australian contingent earlier in the day.

The Iranian squad started the game in an energetic fashion. Australians did not manage to well cope with Iran’s tactics, as the latter side was in full strength to rack up points. The Persians eventually bolted out to an 18-7 first period win. The Iranian footvolley players kept the momentum in the second period, and scored points to pull out a dramatic 18-5 win.

Iran’s footvolley team had achieved an emphatic win over the hosts on Saturday to advance to the semi-final round of Asian championship.

The 3rd edition of Asian Footvolley Championship kicked off in the Thai capital city of Bangkok on May 13, and ran through May 15, 2016.

Footvolley was created by Octavio de Moraes on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach, Brazil, in 1965. It is a sport that combines aspects of beach volleyball and association football.

Footvolley is essentially beach volleyball, except for the fact that players are not allowed to use their hands, and a football replaces the volleyball.

A number of professional football players, including Romário, Edmundo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Júnior, and Edinho, have taken up footvolley in both promotional events and celebrity matches in recent years.
