Concept of human being in Islam

What differentiates a human being from the rest of creation?  What is it that define the characteristics of a human being?

According to the Islamic view, some angels are incapable of doing anything wrong. Some are spending their entire time in prayer to Allah.

The specialty of a human being is considered to be that the human being has the capacity to choose to do good or to do evil.

Allah (S.W.T.) says in the Holy Quran in Surat Ash-Shams (Verse 7-10): "And by Nafs, (soul), and Him Who perfected him in proportion; then He inspired him corruption and its righteousness; Indeed he succeed who chooses to purify his ownself; and indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself."

This shows that Man has the potential to learn and acquire knowledge to help him make the distinction between good and evil. Human being has been given the free choice but this choice comes with full guidance to direct man towards good and away from evil. And he will be held accountable for the choices he makes.

Surat Az-Zalzalah, (Verses 7): "And whosoever does an atom worth of weight as good, he will see that, and whosoever does an atom worth of weight evil, he will see it."

This verse of the Quran is the promise of Allah to hold people accountable whatever end of the spectrum they choose to be at for whatever deed.  This accountability is integral to getting humans to understand that every action matters.
