Croatian president to visit Iran next week for talks
Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic is scheduled to pay an official visit to Iran to hold talks with the country’s officials on a range of issues.
Grabar-Kitarovic is due in Tehran next week to discuss with Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rouhani, the expansion of relations as well as bilateral cooperation on regional and international issues.
A large business delegation led by the Croatian Chamber of Economy is accompanying Grabar-Kitarovic during her visit to Iran.
Representatives and officials of about 50 Croatian companies are also expected to send their representatives to join the president on the trip.
The visit by the Croatian president to Iran comes against the backdrop of the lifting of sanctions against Tehran following the implementation of a historic agreement over its nuclear program, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Several officials and presidents from different countries, including European states, have visited Iran following the implementation of the JCPOA and the removal of embargoes against Tehran.
Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the United States, France, Britain, China and Russia – plus Germany signed the JCPOA on July 14, 2015 following two and a half years of intensive talks.
The two sides started implementing the JCPOA on January 16.
Under the JCPOA, all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran by the European Union, the Security Council and the US would be lifted. Iran has, in return, put some limitations on its nuclear activities.
