Here is a round-up of global news developments:
- The secretary general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah has criticized Saudi Arabia for listing the movement as a terrorist organization. Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stressed that Hezbollah’s enemies will lose in their battle against the movement. He also warned of warming relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
- Syria has officially filed a complaint with the UN over Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey’s continued support for terrorist groups. Damascus also said truce violations in the provinces of Aleppo and Homs are the result of the breach of UN resolutions by those countries.
- The Syrian army has rejected reports that its warplanes targeted a refugee camp on Thursday. The military said there is no truth to the reports. The airstrikes on a refugee camp in Idlib province left at least 30 civilians dead and many others wounded.
- Hamas Leader in Gaza Ismail Haniyah says the resistance movement will not accept Israel’s incursions under any circumstance. He added however that Hamas is not seeking a new war with Tel Aviv. Israeli air force and tanks have been striking the Gaza Strip over the past three days.
- Bahraini demonstrators have staged an anti-government rally in the town of Diraz. They demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners especially the head of al Wefaq opposition bloc Sheikh Ali Salman. The tiny Persian Gulf kingdom has been witnessing numerous protests since the uprising in February 2011.
- At least seven people have lost their lives as a man blew up his explosives in the Yemeni city of Ma’rib. Over a dozen people were also wounded in the explosion that targeted a local market. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
- A police officer has been shot dead in Saudi Arabia’s Mecca region. He was killed while on duty at a police station. The incident took place only hours after four Daesh terrorists were killed during a confrontation with security forces in the same area.
- Authorities in Canada are still struggling to contain a huge wildfire that broke out in Alberta six days ago. More than 1,100 firefighters and 145 helicopters have been deployed to fight the blaze. Over 88,000 residents have left the area. The blaze has not caused any casualties.
