Zarif: P5+1 should pave way for Iran banking exchanges

  • Militant attacks on government-held areas and a hospital in Syria's northern city of Aleppo have killed and wounded dozens of people. Military sources say the terrorists shelled several neighborhoods. Aleppo province has been recently engulfed by violence and heavy fighting between government forces and Takfiri militants.
     
  • Millions of Shia Muslims have converged on Kadhimiya north of the Iraqi capital to mark the martyrdom anniversary of the seventh Shia Imam. Pilgrims have been traveling to Imam Musa al-Kazem’s holy shrine over the past week. Major roads in the city have been blocked to maintain security.
     
  • A Muslim woman files a lawsuit against Long Beach police in the US state of California, for forcibly removing her Islamic veil at the police station. Kirsty Powell says she was forced to remain exposed overnight in view of other male officers and dozens of inmates.
     
  • President Hassan Rouhani says Iran's nuclear deal with the P5+1 benefits all parties involved. He says the recent visits by numerous foreign delegations to Iran should be viewed as one of the accomplishments of the deal. The president says despite disruptions by certain countries, Iran is resolved to continue on its path.
     
  • Iran's Foreign Minister calls on the P5+1 group of countries to fulfill their commitments under the nuclear deal with Tehran. Mohammad Javad Zarif says these countries should facilitate banking exchanges with Iran. He made the statement in a meeting with the visiting French Secretary General for Foreign Affairs Christian Masse in Tehran.
     
  • Israel has detained at least eight Palestinians in a new wave of repression in the West Bank. Palestinian sources say the detainees were taken away during door-to-door search operations in three villages. According to locals, Israeli forces stormed and ransacked the houses before dawn.
     
  • An Israeli NGO accuses Tel Aviv of torturing Palestinians and African immigrant detainees. In a report to the UN Committee on Torture in Geneva, the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel has shown that Tel Aviv uses harsh interrogation techniques against the captives. The committee is set to look into the report.
     
  • A huge blast hits Afghanistan’s Bagram district in the eastern Parwan province. There have been no official reports of casualties yet. The Taliban militants have claimed responsibility for the roadside bomb attack which targeted a foreign military convoy. Bagram houses the largest US military base in Afghanistan.
