Press TV has conducted an interview with Mark Glenn, a political commentator from Idaho, about Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s call on independent states to step up cooperation against arrogant powers.
The following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: You heard what the Leader stated earlier today that there is a need for greater and strengthened cooperation between independent countries against what might be the desire of some world powers, which are being referred to here as arrogant powers. Now, what is your take on the independence of these countries and what kind of cooperation do you think the Iranian Leader was referring to?
Glenn: Well clearly given the fact that Iran has close ties with very powerful independent countries such as Russia and such as China, what the Supreme Leader is correctly describing here is the need for free states and by that we mean states that are not under the thumb of Western imperialism or Western economic imperialism to join together, because independently they will be picked off and destroyed one by one just as Iraq was, just as Libya was, just as Serbia was.
Any country that runs afoul of Western imperialist and Zionist demands, if they don’t have big powerful friends or if they’re not part of powerful groups where mutual interests are shared then these countries can expect to be destroyed, ripped to pieces by this wild beast of imperialism.
The fact that the leader of South Africa was there having this meeting [with Iran’s Leader], what that indicates to me is that South Africa is falling out of the Western orbit and seeks to join other movements, which clearly is the case since South Africa is one of the founding members of the BRICS alliance, which right now is challenging that economic imperialism of the West.
Press TV: Mark, should there be such a cooperation being symbolic discussed between Iran and South Africa given the past history of fighting against imperialism as you put it and fighting for their independence. But should there be such a cooperation, what kind of an impact do you think that would have even within the Non-Alignment Movement, which was purported by the Leader also, would have on the regional crises that we’re facing at the moment in the Middle East?
Glenn: Well, I think that it can only have a good and positive effect. The problems that the West has dumped in the region and particularly in places such as Syria, Iraq, Libya, if there are powerful players to counter that [is because of that cooperation] and the proof of that obviously is what we’re witnessing right now.
Were it not for the very heavy and steady hand of the Russians, the West would have stepped in and ripped Syria to pieces in a fashion even worse than what she has suffered now as a result of these Western-backed terrorists that have been free to roam all over the countryside.
And so, it can only have a positive effect, I mean, at the end of the day it’s going to take strong men and women, it’s going to take strong nations working cooperatively together in order to bring peace and stability to the world. So, there can only be positive developments that come from such an arrangement.
