At least one man has been killed and three police officers have been shot in separate shootouts in the United States.

One male victim was killed at a church service in North Wales, Montgomery in Pennsylvania on Sunday and a person has been arrested in that regard.

The shooting took place at the Keystone Fellowship Church in southeastern Pennsylvania, police said, adding no further information.

In a separate incident in Topeka, Kansas, three federal police officers were wounded in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect at a motel on Sunday.

Casualties happened when a joint fugitive task force attempted to arrest a suspect at the Country Club Motel in Topeka.

Reports say two deputy US marshals and an FBI agent suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the gun battle.

Scores of people reportedly die in daily gun-related incidents across America.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), firearms kill more than 33,000 people in the US every year, a number that includes accidental discharge, murder and suicides.

Polls show an overwhelming majority of Americans, including 84 percent of gun owners, believe background checks are necessary for gun purchases made at gun shows or online.
