Valentino Rossi wins Spanish Grand Prix

Valentino Rossi has raced from pole to victory at the Spanish MotoGP at the Jerez circuit.

The Italian finished well ahead of home favorites Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez on Sunday in his first win in four races this season which is his 87th career victory in the top category and his 9th at Jerez.

He stayed in front of his rivals for the entire race and won in 45 minutes, 28.834 seconds. His teammate Lorenzo crossed the line more than two seconds later, followed by Marquez who finished third on his Honda.

Defending champion Lorenzo said after the race that he had a problem with his tires that stopped him from chasing Rossi.

With the Sunday results, Marquez kept his lead in the standings, moving up to 82 points, while Lorenzo is second with 65 and Rossi is third with 58.
