Iranian sportswoman Mahsa Javer will test her athletic skills and strength in the rowing events of the forthcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after advancing to the finals of 2016 FISA Asia & Oceania Olympic Qualification Regatta (FAOQR) in South Korea.
On Sunday, the rower participated in the women’s single sculls competitions at the artificial Tangeum Lake in the central South Korean city of Chungju.
She clocked 8 minutes and 5.08 seconds to finish runner-up in the march to the Final A of the tournament and book her spot in Brazil. A contestant from South Korea was the fastest qualifier with a time of 7:57.64.
Javar will be in action in the final round of the of 2016 FISA Asia & Oceania Olympic Qualification Regatta (FAOQR) on Monday in a bid to pick up a medal.
She will face rowers from Indonesia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.
Separately, Aghel Habibiyan landed sixth in the semifinal round of the men’s heavyweight single section, failing to progress to Final A.
He is scheduled to face opponents from various Asian countries in Final B on Monday, when only the top-ranked rower celebrates his precious passage to the Olympic Games.
The 2016 FISA Asia & Oceania Olympic Qualification Regatta (FAOQR) started in Chungju, South Korea, on April 22 and will finish on April 25.
