How is it to be British and activist?

In this week’s British & Activism, Nargees goes to London and wants to discover how it is to be British and an activist. She goes on to Brixton, which used to be the British Black capital of United Kingdom and meets one of the most prominent activist in the UK, Lee Jaston.

Nargees talks to him about his own history as an activist along with the state of activism in the UK. Lee takes Nargees to different parts of Brixton and Nargees is shown the traditional areas where Carribean products are to be found, along with areas in Brixton which have seen lots of changes.

Nargess goes on to see Arzu Merali, a well-known Muslim activist from the human rights commission and talks to her about her background and dilemmas of being an activist and problems that she has faced in recent years. Arzu talks about activism from the 1980s and how the emergence of different activism led to fragmentation of any kind of unity to fight injustice.

The two then go to the IHRC office, where Arzu tell her about things that are done at IHRC offices. In the closing part of the clip, Nargees goes on to a protest on anti-government protest, where she talks to Lee and a couple of other about why they taking part in the anti-austerity protest.
