Good Friday: Islam and Christianity

Despite the common Abrahamic heritage between Christianity and Islam, Good Friday is not celebrated in the Muslim world as it is in the Christian world.

The issue revolves around what happened to Jesus or Hazrat Isa (PBUH) on that day. Is there a difference in understanding or belief or perception about the events surrounding Good Friday that account for the differences in attitude? How does that impact on the understanding of the personality of Jesus or Hazrat Isa (PBUH)?

The Quran is explicitly clear on aspects of what happened.

Despite these differences, there is a lot that the people of the two faiths can find common cause in. That is certainly worthy of celebration.

Coming together on Good Friday to celebrate God’s intervention in saving the good, embodied in the personality of Jesus, is thus a path taken by the faithful on Good Friday.
