Iranians prepare themselves for Nowruz and Persian New Year

Nowruz is an essential part of Iranian heritage to celebrate the Persian New Year.

Persians have long celebrated their New Year as the birds sing and trees begin to bloom on March 21st.

“Nowruz”, meaning New Day is an essential part of Iranian heritage. Yet, it is celebrated by almost 300-million people in different countries across the world.

Celebrating Nowruz has its own rituals. People from weeks ahead, start preparing themselves. Homes are cleaned and carpets are washed. Markets are filled with people who come out to buy Nowruz decorations.

In 2010, the United Nations recognized March 21st as the International Day of Nowruz, or the Persian New Year.
