At least 19 Palestinian pilgrims have been killed and over 30 others injured in a road accident in Jordan.

Casualties occurred when the bus overturned in southern Jordan near the Saudi border on Wednesday, emergency services said.

Jordan's civil defense officials said the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle around 320 kilometers (200 miles) south of the capital, Amman, and warned that the toll could rise, given the severity of the injuries.

The state news agency, Petra, says the late Wednesday crash took place near the Jordanian city of Ma'an.

It says the bus was headed toward Saudi Arabia at the time of the accident.
