Iran holds diplomatic ski competition

One of Iran’s largest ski resorts, located near the capital Tehran, has hosted the 5th Diplomatic Ski Competition attended by foreign ambassadors among others.

The contest was held at the Dizin resort on Tuesday, an hour’s drive from the capital, with the participation of foreign envoys, other diplomats, employees enlisted with international organizations’ Iran chapters and their families.

More than 50 competitors from embassies of Germany, France, Austria, Slovakia, Japanese, New Zealand, Venezuela, Bolivian and Egypt as well as staff of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross headquarters in the Tehran attended the event.

Austrian skiers managed to come first in all three age categories, which featured youngsters, males and females.

The last round of the competition was held two years ago, with German Ambassador to Tehran Michael von Ungern-Sternberg describing it as both fun and productive.

Towering well above the surrounding terrains, Iran’s various peaks attract a good number of ski aficionados most of the year, including thousands of foreign tourists.
