Israel demands actions by the P5+1 against Iran's missile launches

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demands immediate actions by the P5+1 group against Iran's ballistic missile launches.

Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • Israel demands immediate action by the P5+1 group against Iran over its recent ballistic missile launches. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered Israeli diplomats to launch a campaign against Iran over what he called gross violation of the nuclear deal. Washington has already acknowledged that the launches do not violate the nuclear deal.
  • The Saudi-backed Syrian opposition demands the removal of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power. Opposition negotiator Mohamad Alloush says Syria’s transition period can only start with the fall of Assad or his death. Allush made the remarks ahead of the Monday peace talks in Geneva.
  • Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem says the fate of President Bashar al-Assad remains a red line for Damascus. Muallem also urged the Saudi-backed opposition to attend next week’s peace talks in Geneva. Earlier, UN envoy Staffan de Mistura said Syria's presidential election is expected within 18 months.
  • Hamas says it has sent a delegation to Egypt in a bid to repair the ties with Cairo which soured after former president Mohamed Morsi was ousted by the army in 2013. Hamas is accused of involvement in last year's assassination of Egypt’s chief prosecutor.
  • Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has promised to retaliate against the ISIL, after the terrorist group launched a chemical attack on the northern city of Taza. A three-year-old girl died and some 600 people were injured in Wednesday's rocket attacks. Officials believe the rockets contained mustard gas.
  • In France, thousands of protesters rally in Paris to oppose the state of emergency in place since the deadly attacks in the city last November. The demonstrators were angry at the extension of a law, which allows police to carry out searches and arrests, and to restrict the movements of people and vehicles.
  • At least two Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in fresh fighting between government troops and pro-Russia militia over the past 24 hours. Several soldiers were also wounded in two separate attacks near Donetsk. Ukraine’s military warned of a sharp increase in attacks as talks to resolve the nearly two-year conflict keeps floundering.
  • Pro-Kurdish groups have rallied in the German city of Berlin in protest at Turkey’s attacks against the Kurds. They called for an end to violence in predominately Kurdish south-eastern Turkey. Only this week, over 65 Kurdish militants were killed in Ankara’s latest attacks against PKK positions.
