Obama using Iranophobia to boost Democratic support: Analyst

“In the United States we have had a culture and a national consciousness largely that has been developed for the last 30 years that looks at Iran as an enemy of the United States," says Bennett.

US President Barack Obama’s extension of a so-called national emergency against Iran for another year is a “psyop” to garner more support for the Democratic Party in the upcoming presidential election, says an American analyst and former US Army member.

Obama’s move comes despite the recent nuclear deal that was reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries in July last year and went into effect in January.

The executive order means non-nuclear US sanctions against Iran will remain in effect for at least another year.

In an interview with Press TV on Thursday, Scott Bennett, a former US Army psychological warfare officer, attributed Obama’s move to the current political season in the US, where the Democratic Party needs to boost its image among American voters to ensure that Obama’s successor will also be a Democrat.

“In the United States we have had a culture and a national consciousness largely that has been developed for the last 30 years that looks at Iran as an enemy of the United States, as a threat against Israel, and all sorts of propaganda buttressed, supported and developed that psyop [psychological operation],” Bennett explained.

The counter-terrorism analyst said the American public is “slowly” discovering that this is “a complete lie and the opposite is true.”

“In one sense it is quite ridiculous because all of the other nations of the world are not seeing Iran as a threat, it is not seeing Iran as an economic destabilizer,” Bennett said, adding that Obama’s attempts to bill Iran as an economic threat to the US “do not hold much water.”

The analyst expressed hope that Americans would elect better leaders that would “see Iran as an increasingly friendly nation that is not a threat,” and realizes that “the threat to the US all along” is Saudi Arabian Wahhabism which is financing terrorists in countries like Syria.
