Scio, is a pocket 'food-sniffing' sensor which analyzes materials using light as a function of wavelength or frequency.

A device is showcased at the Mobile World Congress which can measure chemical content of materials including food.

SCIO is a molecular sensor that fits in the palm of the hand. The spectrometer analyzes materials using light as a function of wavelength or frequency.

It allows one to get information about chemical make-up of materials around themselves and sends it directly to their smartphones using Bluetooth technology.

The device can be used to calculate sweetness of a watermelon, the quality of a leather jacket or even the authenticity of gem stones.
