Iran’s Hadipour snatches gold in Rio 2016 taekwondo test event
Iranian taekwondo practitioner Armin Hadipour Seighalani has scooped up a gold medal at the Aquece Rio International Taekwondo Championships (WTF G1), commonly known as the Rio 2016 taekwondo test event, in Brazil.
The 21-year-old Iranian sportsman, who received a bye in his first contest in the first round of men’s minus 58-kilogram weight class at the Carioca 1 in the Olympic Park of Rio de Janeiro, downed Daniel Silva, an opponent from the host nation, 16-4 in his first competition.
Hadipour Seighalani overpowered Mexican rival Abdon Rivera Gonzalez 5-2 in his second contest, and earned the ticket for the final showdown.
The young Iranian athlete prevailed over Portuguese taekwondo practitioner Rui Bragança 3-2 in his last contest, and finished as champion.
The Aquece Rio International Taekwondo Championships (WTF G1) started in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 20 and finished on February 21, 2016.
The Rio 2016 Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games and the Brazilian Taekwondo Federation were the organizers of the tournament.
