British man accused of planning US, UK forces

Junead Khan, 25, from Luton used a bomb-making article from an al-Qaeda publication to plan an attack on British or American military personnel in the UK

A British man has gone on trial accused of planning a terror attack on UK or US military personnel.

Prosecutors say Junead Khan, 25, from Luton used a bomb-making article from an al-Qaeda publication to plan an attack on British or American military personnel in the UK.

Prosecutor Max Hill told a London court that Khan, a delivery driver whose work took him past US air bases in eastern England  was "preparing for an attack on British forces or American soldiers or airmen" when he was arrested in July.

Police have found a laptop in Khan’s home containing an article from an al-Qaida online magazine entitled "Make a bomb in the kitchen of your mom." Khan denies preparing for an attack.

The 25-year-old is also charged, alongside his 23-year-old uncle Shazib Khan, with preparing to join ISIL terrorists in Syria. They both deny that charge.

Police also found black flags in his attic with ISIL slogans and pictures on his phone and laptop showing him posing in front of them in his bedroom.
