Iranian freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers have picked up five medals, including two golds, in the Dan Kolov & Nikola Petrov 2016 international wrestling tournament in Bulgaria.
Iranian athlete Ali Moujerlou, who had received a bye in his opening round contest of men’s 86-kilogram freestyle weight category, overcame a wrestler from Algeria by 10 points to 0 in the first contest.
He then prevailed over his Polish rival Sebastian Jezierzański 10-0 in the next match to march into the final round.
Moujerlou downed his Polish opponent Zbigniew Baranowski 4-3 in the last encounter and collected the gold medal.
In the 125-kilogram category, Iran’s Amir-Reza Amiri conceded a 0-5 defeat to Deng Shudi from China and claimed a silver medal.
Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers Mehdi Ebrahimi, Kayvan Rezaei and Amir Hossein Rezaei also snatched a gold and two bronze medals in the 80-kilogram and 98-kilogram weight divisions.
The Dan Kolov & Nikola Petrov 2016 international wrestling tournament started in the Bulgarian capital city of Sofia on January 29, and will finish on January 31.
Dozens of male and female freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers from various countries, including Algeria, Armenia, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Egypt, Iran, Mongolia, Poland and Venezuela have taken part in the tournament.
