A number of soldiers on duty at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss city of Davos have been sent home for using cocaine.

Twelve soldiers tasked with guarding the meeting had tested positive for marijuana and five of them had also used cocaine, reports said on Friday.

The five cocaine users were sent home, and will face disciplinary measures. One of them who was found in possession of three grams of cocaine will undergo a criminal investigation.

The remaining seven, who had only smoked marijuana, will face disciplinary measures while remaining in Davos, as marijuana use is a lesser offence.

The twelve, among some 4,500 soldiers brought in to ensure security in Davos, were all in the same unit, made up of troops predominately from the southern Swiss cantons of Ticino and Graubunden.
