Animals on Earth most forgotten zoo left to rot in misery

Zoological garden, or in its abbreviated form zoo, seems to be a mere euphemism for the prisons where wild animals serve their life sentences, providing humans with a sadistic entertainment of gawking at their misery.

The gloomiest, smallest, and perhaps the worst zoo on the planet is most probably the one located in the heart of Armenia’s second largest city of Gyumri in the northwestern province of Shirak.

Three lions, two bears and two guinea pigs, the only inmates of the zoo, were once bought by an Armenian billionaire to give jungle-themed parties for his friends, but then left abandoned when their owner vanished into thin air.

The starving beasts, cramped in small and dirty cages, are gradually showing signs of madness due to their terrible conditions.

A pensioner couple feed them with whatever they can to prevent the poor animals from starving to death.

“We cannot get anyone to help them. The previous owner was stuck in some kind of feud with local mobsters, the government doesn't want to get involved and it is the animals who suffer,” said Hovhamnes Madoyan, the husband. “I get up every morning and go into the woods to find food for the bears, but it is never enough,” added his wife Alvina.

Every so often, a vet might visit the deserted zoo and examine its poor animals from outside the cages.
