Press TV has conducted an interview with Mark Glenn, an author and political analyst in Idaho, to ask for his take on the recent string of deadly explosions in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Certainly a sad day for Indonesia as of course the country with the world’s largest population of Muslims has suffered this horrific violence. What are your thoughts at this time?

Glenn: My first thought is that if we can accept the notion that ISIS and ISIL are creatures of Western and Israeli intelligence, the question that has to be asked at this point is: What did the West and what did the Israel have to gain by allowing this attack to take place? Certainly, the very strong circumstance or evidence that is accumulated over the years proves that this was not just staying strong upon the desert of the Middle East out of nowhere that has been armed and trained and funded and nursed along by the United States and Israel and so the question that has to be asked at this point is what are they have to gain by moving the field of battle from Syria, from Iraq and other places in the Middle East to Paris? Is this being done as a precursor to somehow tying China up? Because China has made noises about stepping in to help the Russians in their fight against these Takfiris in Syria. Is that the goal here? Or is it just to further the narrative along? Making it appear as though this is just a broad Islamic movement that covers every part of the globe, and therefore all of the resources of every country in the world have to be expended in fighting.

Press TV: We know all of the countries that support the likes of Daesh or other terrorist groups either by funding, arming or even motivating through ideology. So why is not anyone going after them?

Glenn: Yes, exactly. I mean we know for sure that the [Persian] Gulf States have helped to fund and train these terrorists. Why are we not seeing this type of terrorist attacks taking place against the Saudis and others who have helped to bring this monster up from out of the earth? And so that is a very good point. I think that point that we have to also factor into this is how, supposedly if this came as a surprise, is it that the West and particularly the United States did not see it coming? I mean we have the most sophisticated electronics intelligence gathering apparatus in the world, the National Security Agency, who are able to tap into the phones of literally every leader in the world and yet supposedly we are not able to muster up enough technology to figure out that these guys were planning an attack in Jakarta.

So I think that is also a question and needs to be explored and of course I think that the big thing that we always have to employ when anything like this happens is a certain degree of skepticism and understating that it is the West and it is in Israel’s interest to have things like this happen and therefore the big questions is: Why did they do it? What are the bigger implications of this and how is it going to affect literally every man, woman and child on the planet?
