Press TV has conducted an interview with Jim W. Dean, managing editor of Veterans Today in Atlanta, and Bob Ayers, former US intelligence officer in Somerset, to discuss the situation in Syria.

Dean says Moscow’s gains against terror groups in Syria since late September have “embarrassed” the US, which has been on a so-called anti-Daesh mission along with a group of its allies in the Arab state for more than a year.

The effectiveness of Russia’s anti-terror campaign in Syria “has caught Washington and the Pentagon by surprise,” says the analyst, adding that Moscow has now taken the lead in the fight against the Takfiri groups wreaking havoc in the Arab country.

“The Russians world standings now has gone way up because people trust the Russians now more than the United States,” says Dean, adding that Washington’s claims of working to promote democracy and freedom are fraudulent.

He highlights the links between the Saudis and Zahran Alloush, the notorious leader of the terrorist group calling itself Jaysh al-Islam, who was killed in a Syrian airstrike near Damascus, censuring the international community for turning a blind eye to the Riyadh regime’s support for such extremists.

Dean also says certain parties benefit from the chaos in the region, adding that they “have sat down and figured out how much money is to be made continually through” such mayhem.

Ayer, for his part, believes that the US administration’s policy with regard to Syria is rather “confused.” He also thinks there is a shift in the US views on military ties with Russia after Moscow started its anti-terror campaign in Syria.
