Press TV has interviewed Seyyed Mohsen Fatemi, Iranian psychologist and university professor, to discuss the passing anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and martyrdom of Imam Hassan (AS), the second Shia Imam.

What follows is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: It seems quite befitting that the death anniversary of Prophet Muhammad as well as one of his grandsons has fallen on a day when the world commemorates human rights.

Fatemi: It is safe to say that the demise anniversary of Prophet Muhammad and Imam Hassan Mojtaba [constitutes] one of the greatest chapters in terms of compassion and kindness. It is the manifestation and crystallization of Islam as a true religion of compassion, kindness, understanding, which you see right now in terms of different walks of life walking towards the shrine of Imam Reza, the Imam of compassion and kindness. Also [it] demonstrates and testifies that the true Islam is the manifestation of compassion, tranquility and composure and it is through the equanimity of Islam and even this on the mind under specific pressure that is the real pristine aspect of Islam unfolds itself.

So what you see right now is one of the examples, one of the most beautiful manifestations of Islam as the religion of peace, the religion of compassion and Prophet Muhammad himself is the greatest manifestation, the salient manifestation, and the conspicuously-positive manifestation of compassion for all people and creatures in the world. Within Islamic ontology and Islamic school of thought, Prophet Muhammad was ordained in order to bring compassion and kindness not only for people of the world, but also for all creatures. So all creatures in the world are in dire need of this compassion. So one can examine and explore how profound and deep this understating of compassion in terms of Islamic school of thought is, and this is contrary to what the extremists in the world do today and they abuse and misuse Islam because of their misunderstanding or their intention that is associated with bellicosity and animosity against true Islam.

...You can see that true Islam is characterized through compassion, peace and understating along with benevolence and composure towards everybody.
