Mortar attack targets Syria's Deir Ezzor, kills six

Six civilians have been killed in a mortar attack by the Daesh Takfiri terrorists on the city of Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria, state media report.

Sources said mortar rounds landed on a building in the city’s al-Joureh neighborhood when teachers were receiving their salaries on Saturday, official SANA news agency reported.

The dead included four teachers, an accountant and a child, while five others sustained injuries in the terror attack.

Three other shells hit various areas in the neighborhood, inflicting heavy damage on a number of houses.

Six civilians were also wounded in a separate mortar attack on the capital, Damascus, launched by terrorists positioned in the Eastern Ghouta region east of the capital.

Another civilian was killed in the northeastern province of Hasakah when a landmine planted by Daesh terrorists exploded.

Syria has suffered from over four years of foreign-backed militancy, which the government blames on some countries, including Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

The Arab country is experiencing a relative ease from the turmoil as the government forces have made significant gains against militants of Daesh and other terrorist groups under the air cover provided by Russia which started on September 30.

More than 250,000 have been killed and hundreds of thousands displaced as a result of the crisis in Syria since March 2011.
