Nazir Liemlahi gives some figures on refugees who immigrated to Spain in 2014. Eighty percent of these immigrants don’t go to Spain for economic reasons but they are asylum seekers.

In April 2014 only, 900 people died in the Mediterranean trying to reach Europe. These problems have been caused due to enormous inequality between the Global North and the Global South.

If we don’t take these into account then we cannot find a solution. We need a radical change in relations between nation states.
