US to blame for rise of Daesh: Ex-CIA director
The US government deserves blame for its failure in destroying Daesh (ISIL), former acting CIA Director Jack Devine says.
“You have a group in ISIS today that is frankly uncivilized. These folks could get stronger and stronger. We basically have to destroy ISIS over there,” Devine said in an interview aired on Sunday, using another acronym for the terrorist group.
He said, “if there’s blame to be put, it’s on our failure to have done that by this point.”
Devine, who retired from the CIA in 1999, described Daesh as an unprecedented threat in terms of its lust for violence.
He said that “this is the most dangerous time in terms of sustained violence,” adding “I have never felt more uncomfortable than I do today.”
The former spymaster said Washington needs to adopt a new approach in its fight against the terror organization.
The US needs to dismantle Daesh’s command structure in order to minimize the danger it presents, he argued. “We have to destroy their refuge over there. When they start to lose, their recruiting numbers start to fall.”
The Takfiri terrorists conducted a series of attacks in the French capital city of Paris on November 13, killing 130 people and wounding over 350.
The assaults caused the European leaders to put the whole Europe on high alert last week over more attacks.
The Anonymous hacktivist group has warned that Daesh terrorists would carry out attacks in France, the US, and other locations around the globe on Sunday.
The loose collective of online activists released a report Saturday, saying Daesh plans to attack three events in Paris, a women’s rights group event and two musical ones.
Daesh itself has released a few videos, threatening New York City; Washington, DC; and the White House with mass killings and suicide attacks.
