Muslims have held street rallies in the Italian cities of Rome and Milan in condemnation of the recent terrorist attacks in France and Lebanon.

The demonstrations on Saturday, under the theme of “Not in my name” began with a minute of silence to pay respect to the victims of the attacks.

On November 13, shooting attacks and bombings in the French capital, Paris, claimed the lives of more than 130 people.

A day earlier, over 40 people were killed and some 240 others injured in twin blasts in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

The Takfiri Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility the terrorist attacks in the two cities.

The demonstrators expressed solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attacks, rejecting violent acts in the name of religion.

“The Koran is against violence,” “Islam is peace,” read banners held up by demonstrators who gathered in a square in central Rome under heavy police surveillance.

“The message is clear, terrorism cannot continue to attack everywhere in the name of Muslims,” said Abdellah Redouane, head of the Islamic Cultural Center in Rome, who was attending the demonstration.

In Milan, where security has been tight in the past few days over fears of terrorist attacks, demonstrators chanted “No to ISIS,” referring to Daesh.

On Friday, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a French-proposed resolution calling on all countries to take part in the fight against Daesh.

“By its violent extremist ideology, its terrorist acts, its continued gross systematic and widespread attacks directed against civilians, abuses of human rights and violations of international humanitarian law, including those driven on religious or ethnic ground, its eradication of cultural heritage and trafficking of cultural property,” Daesh has created “a global and unprecedented threat to international peace and security,” the statement said.
