A court in Kuwait has sentenced five people to 10 years in prison each for raising USD 1.3 million and transferring it to the Daesh Takfiri militant group.
The court ruling came on Monday, saying that three of the convicted men were Kuwaiti nationals.
The two others were foreign nationals who would be deported after serving their ten-year sentence, the court order added.
The men were involved in fundraising activities in Kuwait and sending the money to Daesh militants who have taken control of some areas in Syria and Iraq.
Courts in Kuwait have issued several orders against supporters of the Daesh militant group in the Persian Gulf country over the past year.
Seven people were sentenced to death in September for helping a Saudi man for a bombing attack on a Shia mosque in Kuwait City. Some 26 worshipers died and 220 others were injured in the bombing carried out on June 26. The Daesh militant group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The latest court ruling came as reports have showed that a number of western countries and their allies among the Persian Gulf states have been supporting the Daesh militancy in Syria and Iraq.
The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by gruesome violence ever since Daesh terrorists began their campaign of terror in the country in June 2014. Iraqi army soldiers and volunteer fighters are seeking to win back militant-held regions in joint operations.
Since the beginning of the foreign-backed militancy in Syria in March 2011, armed terrorist groups, including Daesh, have been fighting in the country to topple the government in Damascus.
More than 250,000 have been killed and over 12 million people, including more than 5.6 million children, remain in need of humanitarian assistance in Syria since the start of the crisis in the Arab country.
