Israeli military forces have shot and killed yet another Palestinian youth in the occupied West Bank.

The unidentified Palestinian youth was fatally shot in Jalama checkpoint at the northern entrance to the occupied West Bank city of Jenin on Monday morning, the Arabic-language Ma’an news agency reported.

Israeli police officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that two Palestinian youths armed with knives sought to stab an Israeli soldier at the checkpoint when Israeli forces opened fire and killed one of them. The other Palestinian was later arrested.

The occupied Palestinian territories have recently been the scene of heightened tensions between Palestinians and Israelis.

Tensions were triggered by the Israeli regime’s imposition, in August, of restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) says a total of 2,617 Palestinians sustained gunshot wounds in clashes in the occupied West Bank last month.
