Critical thinking in Islam

Dr. Mu’taz al-Khatib delivering speech on critical thinking.

Critical thinking is intellectual and philosophical activity, which are dependent on thinking, rethinking, questioning, making analysis and restructuring ideas, concepts, perceptions and paradigms.

In Islam, critical thinking is not limited and knowledge improves and opens new ways for thinking. The interpretation of the Quran and Sunnah of the prophet are essential in critical thinking process.

Three main elements of critical thinking are methods, consistency, and the resources, which have to be used in the light of objectives. For Muslims, understanding a mixture of unseen world and seen world is the main objective for critical thinking.
