Syrian army troopers inflict heavy losses on Takfiri militants

Syrian government forces have carried out large-scale mop-up operations against foreign-backed Takfiri militants across the conflict-ridden Arab country, delivering stinging blows to them.

A military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Syrian army soldiers backed by fighters from allied popular defense groups launched an offensive on the southwestern outskirts of the capital, Damascus, on Sunday, killing a large number of al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front terrorists, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.

Syrian troopers also stormed a stronghold of Takfiri Daesh militants in the Khirbet Saada district of the country’s southwestern province of al-Suwayda. Scores of extremists were killed, and a considerable amount of their arms and munitions was destroyed.

Additionally, Syrian army forces raided a position of the so-called Jund al-Aqsa militant group close to the town of al-Latamna in the western-central province of Hama on Sunday, killing an unspecified number of terrorists. A militant commander, identified as Mohammad Rashed but better known by the nom de guerre Abu al-Atir, was among the slain Takfiris.

Elsewhere in the town of Teir Maalah in Syria’s central Homs Province, government troops attacked the positions of foreign-backed militants, killing a large number of terrorists and destroying their ammunition.

Syrian fighter jets also carried out precision strikes against Daesh bases in the Um Arkilla Village of Syria’s northwestern province of Aleppo, leaving scores of the extremists dead.

Separately, Syrian warplanes pounded Daesh positions in Arafeh Village, which lies east of the city of Hama, on Sunday. Several Takfiri terrorists were killed in the aerial assault.

SANA made no reference to potential casualties among Syrian government forces.

Town retaken

Meanwhile, Syrian army forces alongside fighters from popular defense groups have managed to seize control of al-Manoura town in the province of Hama following days of intense clashes with Takfiri militants.

Syrian forces also retook several checkpoints along the Khanasir-Aleppo Highway in the town of Ithriya in the same province from the foreign-backed terrorists.

The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people and left over one million injured, according to the United Nations (UN).

The world body says 12.2 million people, including more than 5.6 million children, remain in need of humanitarian assistance.

The foreign-sponsored militancy has displaced 7.6 million people.
