Syrian army troopers deal major blows to Takfiri militants

Army forces in Syria have carried out mop-up operations against foreign-backed militants across the conflict-ridden Arab country, inflicting heavy losses on them.

On Tuesday, a total of 20 terrorists were killed during intense clashes with Syrian troops in the Kaferkar Village of the northwestern province of Aleppo, located 355 kilometers (220 miles) north of the capital, Damascus, Syria’s official news agency SANA reported.

An unspecified number of Takfiri extremists were also killed, and their weapons and munitions were destroyed as Syrian soldiers mounted an offensive in the Sheikh Lutfi Village of the same province.

Syrian troopers also raided several terrorist hideouts in other towns and villages of the Aleppo Province, killing a large number of militants and destroying their vehicles.

In addition, the army engaged al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front terrorists in the al-Ameriyah, al-Rashidin and Karm al-Jabal neighborhoods of the city of Aleppo. Scores of militants were killed in the fighting.

The developments came on the same day as Syria’s Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad said Syrian government forces are gearing up for a “decisive battle” to retake Aleppo from the clutches of Takfiri terrorists.

In addition, Syrian soldiers managed to establish control over a part of the town of Teir in the central province of Homs. Syrian troops also stormed the positions of the Takfiri Daesh militants in two other towns of the province, killing a number of the extremists and destroying their vehicles.

Syrian troopers also raided a Daesh base on the outskirts of the ancient city of Palmyra, situated 215 kilometers (133 miles) northeast of Damascus, killing an unspecified number of terrorists.

The commander of the militant Asifet al-Hazm Battalion, identified by the nom de guerre Abu Libia, alongside the leader of the terrorist Sayyed al-Shuhadaa Hamzeh Battalion, better known by the nom de guerre Abu Hamzeh, were also killed during separate army operations in Syria’s western province of Latakia.

Moreover, a unit of Syrian army soldiers closed in on Daesh terrorists in the al-Mrei’iyeh Village of the eastern province of Deir al-Zor, engaging in an exchange of gunfire with the extremists. Three Daesh members were killed, while the rest managed to flee.

There has been no reference to the casualties among the Syrian government forces. 

The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people and left over one million injured, according to the United Nations (UN).
