Fox News analyst who masqueraded as CIA agent sent to prison
A Fox News analyst, who claims to have had a life-long career at the CIA, has been jailed in the United States fabricating the story.
Wayne Simmons, 62, of Annapolis, Maryland, has been remanded to the custody of the US Marshals on Tuesday over pretending to be a former deep-cover CIA agent and posing a threat to the community.
According to ruling by a Virginia judge, Wayne Simmons, 62, of Annapolis, Maryland, is a “significant danger” to the country.
Simmons, who often appeared on Fox News as an analyst on terrorism, has pretended to have worked for the Central Intelligence Agency from 1973 until 2000 as an “Outside Paramilitary Special Operations Officer.”
The fake agent’s storytelling has been so accepted that he was once deployed out of the US to advise military officials.
The man was also in possession of firearms when arrested and is also indicted a bogus real estate deal case.
He will be arraigned on October 23, at 9 am in Alexandria, Virginia and if convicted, he could face to up to 35 years behind bars.
Simmons had earlier told The Washington Times that he had proof of his work at the spy agency.
“I have been vetted at the very highest level of multiple agencies including DOD and SECDEF’s office. There are many folks like me out there who cannot protect themselves because they did not keep Op files to prove activity. I did. CIA knows I’m here,” he said.
US conservatives fear the move could be part of efforts by the administration of President Barack Obama against the conservative retired military community.
“This administration does not like Fox,” said one retired officer.
