Russia achieved in two weeks in Syria what US could not in two years: Analyst

The successful Russian air offensive against Daesh (ISIL) in Syria has exposed the hypocrisy of the United States towards terrorists, an American writer and political analyst says.

Mark Glenn, a writer and co-founder of the Crescent and Cross Solidarity Movement, an interfaith forum dedicated to uniting Muslims and Christians against Zionists, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Saturday.

“What we have to remember here is that Russia was able to achieve in two weeks' time what America did not achieve in two years’ time, meaning that the Russians were in and engaged these terrorists in the way the Americans were pretending to engage with these terrorists,” Glenn said.

“So, what in fact was taking place is that the Russians have exposed the Americans for being the outright liars that they are. It was never America’s intension from the beginning to deal with these terrorists,” he added.

“These terrorists were just there in order to create a situation on the ground that they [American officials] hoped would justify a full-scale American – maybe a NATO – invasion of Syria in order to remove Bashar al-Assad,” Glenn said.

On September 30, Russia began airstrikes against ISIL terrorists wreaking havoc in Syria at a request from the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

Since then, Moscow has carried out dozens of airstrikes against terrorists in Syria, killing hundreds of militants.

On Friday, a senior Russian general said there has been growing discontent among ISIL militants with their command in Syria, with many of them deserting the terror group’s ranks.

Colonel General Andrei Kartapolov, who heads operations in the Russian general staff, said “demoralized” Daesh terrorists are now abandoning the extremist terror group “en masse”.

Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama warned Russia on Friday against its fight on Daesh terrorists in Syria, saying Moscow could not “bomb their way” to a peaceful solution in the war-torn country.

“Even though Obama is making this statement in an atmosphere of desperation,” Mark Glenn said, however, we also have to remember that “the Americans are not simply going to walk away from such a defeat, Israel is not going to walk away from such a defeat, and to say that the best man, in this case Vladimir Putin, won. And that would be the end of it.”

“We can be rest assured that the Americans are going to continue on their dirty tricks in some fashion, because at the end of day we have to remember that that America is a colony of Israel, [and] Israel has decided that the government of Bashar al-Assad has to go,” he noted.

“And the Americans working in collision with Israel are going to attempt dirty tricks after dirty tricks after dirty tricks in order to create a situation that will, they hope, eventually will lead to Assad’s removal,” the analyst observed.
