At least 37 members of the Takfiri Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group have been killed in separate operations by the Iraqi air force in the country’s crisis-hit western province of Anbar.

On Wednesday, a total of 25 Daesh terrorists were killed and 30 others injured after Iraqi fighter jets carried out strikes against Daesh positions in Albu Shajal region, which lies east of Anbar’s provincial capital city of Ramadi, a source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Arabic-language al-Sumaria satellite television network.

During the operation, Iraqi military aircraft destroyed nine vehicles used by Daesh extremists, who were heading toward the city of Fallujah, located roughly 69 kilometers (43 miles) west of the capital, Baghdad.

Iraqi fighter jets launched a separate air assault in Albu Shajal region, killing 12 Daesh militants and wounding 10 others.

The news comes as Iraqi security forces pushed ahead with their campaign against Daesh in Anbar province.

A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the troops have gained ground in the town of Albu Faraj, located more than 120 kilometers (74 miles) west of Baghdad on Tuesday.

Also on Tuesday, fighters from the pro-government Popular Mobilization units fired a barrage of missiles at Daesh positions in an area on the outskirts of the strategic and oil-rich city of Baiji, located some 210 kilometers (130 miles) north of Baghdad, leveling their hideouts there. There were no immediate reports of casualties within Daesh ranks.

No reference has been made to the fatalities among government forces.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by gruesome violence ever since Daesh terrorists began their campaign of terror in the country in June 2014.

The militants have been committing vicious crimes against all ethnic and religious communities in Iraq, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and others.
