The Russian Defense Ministry says intercepted data from Takfiri Daesh terrorists in Syria shows “growing panic” among the militants amid the Russian bombing campaign against their positions in the Arab country.
Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov made the remarks on Sunday, after announcing that Moscow had extended its airstrikes on Daesh positions in four Syrian provinces.
“The data taken from radio intercepts indicates a growing panic among ISIS terrorists,” Konashenkov said, using another acronym for Daesh.
Konashenkov said that over the past 24 hours, Russian aircraft had hit a total of 63 Daesh targets in the provinces of Hama, Idlib, Latakia, and Raqqa, including some 53 fortified zones, seven arms depots, four training camps and one command post.
The spokesman also said Russian airstrikes had killed a number of militants, including commanders.
“A direct hit of a guided KAB-500 air bomb completely destroyed a building with militant commanders inside,” Konashenkov said. “The airstrike also eliminated five SUVs with ZU-23 double-barreled 23mm anti-aircraft guns mounted on them that were parked nearby.”
He added that the airstrikes had been carried out by Sukhoi Su24M and Su-34 bombers and Su25SM assault aircraft.
According to Konashenkov, all aircraft of the Russian task force operating in Syria had successfully returned to the Khmeimim Airbase in Latakia following the airstrikes.
Moscow began its military campaign against terrorists in Syria on September 30 upon a request from the Damascus government, shortly after the upper house of the Russian parliament gave President Vladimir Putin the mandate to use military force in Syria.
Russia says the airstrikes aim to defeat Daesh terrorists in Syria, which have been involved in a foreign-backed militancy in the country. The US and its allies have expressed outrage over the airstrikes.
So far, more than 250,000 people have lost their lives in the Syrian war and millions have been displaced. The terrorists have also been carrying out attacks in neighboring Iraq, killing many people there.
