Who is responsible for Mina tragedy?

In Mina, Saudi Arabia, a tragedy happened on September 24 during the Hajj pilgrimage. Official figures claim that the human crush left only hundreds dead. Unofficial figures, however, are much higher.

The reality on the ground is that thousands were injured or killed in the chaos that led to the deaths of Muslim pilgrims. Over 460 Iranians were among the dead, according to figures by Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization.

Many believe that Saudi Arabia’s involvement with its elite forces in the military aggression against its impoverished neighbor, Yemen, has been one of the major factors that led to failure in managing the crisis in Mina and maintaining the safety of pilgrims. Why has Saudi Arabia played down the death toll from the tragedy? Why do Saudi government officials refuse to accept responsibility?
