Syria forces liberate village in Hama Province
Syrian government forces have gained more grounds against foreign-backed militants, taking control of a village in the western-central province of Hama.
The Syrian forces on Saturday captured the village of Atshan from Takfiri militants, including Al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front, state television reported on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, Syria’s official news agency SANA reported that over 120 militants have been killed in Hama.
The development came a day after Syrian soldiers managed to wrest complete control of al-Bahsa Village in the al-Suqaylabiyah district of Hama, killing 104 terrorists and destroying seven vehicles equipped with heavy machine guns and medium-caliber long-barreled guns.
The UK-based so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, meanwhile, reported heavy clashes around Atshan as Syrian troops are seeking to push northwest and seize a neighboring hilltop.
The forces that are being supported by Russian airstrikes against positions of the Daesh Takfiri terrorists in Syria are pressing ahead with a ground operation and apparently are targeting the town of Khan Sheikhun, across the provincial border in Idlib and on a highway connecting the northwestern flashpoint city of Aleppo and the capital, Damascus.
Moscow’s air campaign that kicked off on September 30 at the request of the Syrian government has mainly targeted Hama along with parts of the neighboring provinces of Latakia and Idlib.
The airstrikes aim to stop the advances of an alliance of militants, including al-Nusra terrorists, that controls Idlib and has tried to push into Hama and Latakia.
Russia against Daesh
The Russian Defense Ministry said Saturday that its forces had struck 55 positions belonging to Daesh in the past 24 hours.
The Russian Defense Ministry added that 29 training camps for terrorists, 23 defensive positions, two command centers and an ammunition depot were demolished in its latest strikes in the provinces of Damascus, Aleppo, Hama, Raqqa and Idlib.
The foreign-sponsored crisis in Syria erupted in March 2011. More than 250,000 people have so far been killed in the turmoil.
