Press TV has interviewed Stephen Lendman, an author and radio host, in Chicago, to discuss NATO’s denouncement of Russia’s alleged violation of the Turkish airspace.

Following is a rough transcription.

Press TV: Irresponsible behavior is how NATO describes Russian flights over Turkey. How do you feel about that?

Lendman: Well, I think the first thing that the viewers should understand is that whenever Jens Stoltenberg speaks, NATO Secretary General, he is speaking for Washington. He is expressing his Washington views.

Let me just briefly quote the Turkish prime minister and what he said about the incident. He said, ‘Russia is our friend and neighbor, there is no tension between Turkey and Russia in this sense. The issue of Syria is not a Russian-Turkish crisis.’ He was speaking in response to this incident about one or more Russian aircraft crossing over accidentally into Turkish territory. So they just consider it a non-issue.

Press TV: So it is interesting isn’t it, the reason that the West is also in Syria, apparently, and Iraq is to defeat Daesh and that is what Russia stated as go as well, so you would think that they would all be working together. Why aren’t they?

Lendman: Well, of course the US’ goal is just the opposite of defeating Daesh, [which is] supporting these people. Importing them from abroad, from scores of countries; the vast majority of the opposition to Assad are coming from other countries and these people are terrorists being formed into death squads. I figure we will have to search long and hard to find Syrians in this force. Sergey Lavrov asked where is this so-called Free Syrian Army? He called it a phantom. He can’t find it. He asked the state department, John Kerry please supply him information about this Free Syrian Army. He has got no information back.

So the whole thing is a hoax by America and again, the people fighting this campaign are the terrorists that America claims it is against, but in fact, it is really supporting.
