Iranian shooters pocket 7 medals in Asian Airgun Championship
Iranian male and female sports shooters have impressed the audience at the 8th edition of Asian Airgun Championship in India, and collected seven medals, including three gold ones, at the international sports event.
On Tuesday, the Iranian squad, consisting of Mehdi Tondari, Jamal Mousavi and Moteza Ali Mohammadi, stood on top of the podium at the end of the 10m air pistol men junior team competitions at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in the Indian capital city of New Delhi.
Indian junior male athletes claimed the silver, while the Chinese Taipei team settled for the third place and the bronze medal.
The glorious achievement came a day after Iran's Elaheh Ahmadi earned 206.6 points to land in the second spot and scoop up the silver medal in the final of women's 10m air rifle event.
Jasmine Wei Xian Ser of Singapore collected 208.1 points altogether and received the gold, while India's Ayonika Paul amassed 185.0 points to claim the bronze.
Also on Monday, the Iranian female team, comprised of Ahmadi, Narjes Emamgholinejad Andevari and Mahlagha Jambozorg, claimed the top spot in the women's 10m air rifle contests and snatched the gold medal. India bagged the team silver and South Koreans picked up the bronze.
In the junior category, Iran's 19-year-old 2014 Asian Games gold medalist Najmeh Khedmati shot awe-inspiring 208.9 points to win the gold medal. Her compatriot, Fatemeh Karamzadeh, scored 208.3 points to win the silver. Indian contestant Shriyanka Sadangi finished third on the podium with 185.4.
Additionally, the Iranian outside finished runner-up in the 10m air rifle women junior competitions behind Chinese Taipei.
In the 10m air rifle women junior division, India’s Aashi Rastogi accumulated 205.7 points to bag the top prize, while Iran's Roya Sobhkhiz won the silver medal with a score of 205.5 points. Another Indian athlete, Prachi Gadkari collected 183.6 points to finish third.
The 8th edition of Asian Airgun Championship opened in New Delhi, India, on September 25 and will finish on October 1, 2015.
A total of 180 male and female sports shooters from 14 Asian countries, including Chinese Taipei, Iran and South Korea, are participating in the four-day competition.
