The men’s national basketball team of Iran has achieved a first victory in the second round of the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship in China after thrashing Hong Kong.

On Sunday, the Iranian side sealed a resounding and well-deserved 111-56 victory over the Hong Kong outfit in a match held at the Changsha Social Work College’s gymnasium in the south-central Chinese city of Changsha.

Both teams went on a point-by-point basis for most of the first quarter before the Iranian basketball players could win the quarter 24–16.

The Iranians lowered the boom on their East Asian opponents as the game progressed. They rallied in the second quarter and breezed past the Hong Kong side with 22 points to 4.

The third quarter played out much like the second, with Iranian basketball players making the most of the rebounds and the assists to accumulate points and win 28–24.

In the final quarter, momentum was clearly with the Hong Kong outfit, which sought to chip the deficit down before the final whistle.
