2 died in random shootings in Banning, California

Law enforcement officers at 4 p.m. Saturday remained on scene at the intersection of John and Hargrave streets in Banning. Hours earlier, two people were killed in random shooting attacks throughout the city.

Two people have been killed in a series of random shootings in the city of Banning, California, authorities say.

According to some witnesses, a man was driving a white SUV down the street in downtown Banning and shooting at people at random on Saturday.

The suspect fled the scene, but was arrested in Beaumont while driving a white Suburban, similar to the one talked about by some of the witnesses.

However, Beaumont interim Chief Sean Thuilliez said it is not clear yet to determine if this is the same suspect from the Banning case.

Police said they decided two crime scene areas near Banning High School where the shootings took place. One was near the intersection of South San Gorgonio Avenue and East Lincoln Street and the other one was near the intersection of Hargrave and John Streets.

Officers found a dead body inside a silver truck that was facing south in the middle of the street at the crime scene at San Gorgonio Avenue and Lincoln Street. There is no further information on the second victim.

Dean Martin, Banning's interim city manager said that there were minor injuries reported in at least one of the shooting scenes, but it was not clear how many people were shot.

Murder rates have increased in cities across the US this year with over 30 cities reporting a rise in violence from a year ago, a report says.

Since the beginning of this year, there has been an average of one mass shooting per day in the United States, according to a website called Mass Shooting Tracker.
