A deadly road accident in the US West Coast city of Seattle has claimed the lives of at least four students and wounded dozens of others.

The incident happened after a bus carrying international students collided with a tour vehicle on a busy bridge of Seattle Thursday.

There were 45 students and a number of university staff on the bus when the incident took place.

At least one Chinese person was among the victims, the foreign ministry in Beijing said Friday.

Local news reports said the four killed were all students.

The crash left at least 50 people injured.

Over a dozen students are said to be in critical condition.

Images of the accident on a busy bridge showed extensive damage to the left side of the bus, part of which was completely sheared off by the force of the crash.

Passengers on board the bus and the "Ride the Ducks" amphibious vehicle -- used for tours in several US cities -- could be seen crawling out of the wreckage, some of them dazed and bloodied, while others were carried away on stretchers.

The cause of the accident is still unknown.
