Commander of the Iranian Army Major General Ataollah Salehi says the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces are fully ready to defend the country in the face of enemy threats, vowing a firm response to aggressors.

On Tuesday, Major General Salehi referred to the Iranian Armed Forces’ resistance during the eight-year war imposed by the regime of executed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein on the Islamic Republic in the 1980s and stressed that today the country’s Army is fully prepared to foil all enemy threats like it has in the past.

The Iranian Army chief made the remarks on the sidelines of a ceremony marking Shahrivar 31 (according to the Iranian calendar), the day when the Saddam regime invaded Iran back in 1980 and which marks the beginning of the Sacred Defense Week in Iran.

The senior military official further said the global arrogance is attempting to destabilize the region by supporting terrorist groups and inciting disputes among regional countries, all with the aim of countering Iran’s Islamic establishment.

The senior Iranian commander further reiterated the Islamic Republic’s full support for the anti-Israeli resistance front in the region, adding that neighboring countries pose no security threat to Iran.

During an address to the ceremony, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani praised the country’s Armed forces as the “biggest anti-terrorism force” in the Middle East region.

The Iranian chief executive further gave assurances that the Islamic Republic will never invade any other country but will defend its sovereignty with full force in case of any threat.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly assured other nations, especially regional neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
